Eric Clapton’s 1998 Signature Model Fender Stratocaster In Tobacco Burst

Click on a photo to view full size image

This is one of two Stratocasters made for Eric Clapton by the great luthier J.W. Black of the Fender Custom Shop, who sent them out to Eric on a U.S. tour in the late ’90s. This was made in May of ’98. It has Eric’s name set in at the 12th fret on a block of Abalone and is finished in 2-tone sunburst with a flame maple top. It has three lace sensor pickups, a stunning maple neck with abalone dot markers, all gold hardware, and comes in a hardshell Fender case. The serial number is 98-1. The mate to this guitar (Cherry Burst) was sold in Christie’s 1999 Eric Clapton Guitar Auction. We sold the Cherry Burst two years ago.
